Obit allows you to directly connect your published notices in Obit to your own website.

Web publishing settings in Obit

Go to the Admin Area and select Publishing

Click the checkbox beside Active Public Notices to enable.

Next you must generate a unique API key by clicking the Generate/Regenerate button - this key will create a secure key to control access from your website to the published documents in Obit.

The Code Snippet created by Obit must be shared with your website administrator, who can insert this into the correct area.


Website Styling

Your website administrator might provide some styling code to ensure that the displays on the website are handled correctly. This should be pasted into the CSS section at the end of the page and Update Changes button clicked.

You are now ready to publish your Death Notices in Obit on your website.

Note - This page will also show you how many notices you have published. You also have the ability to restrict access to only your domain if that is desired.


Identifying Published and Unpublished funerals

In the regular Funeral display, the publishing icon is at the left side of the display - unpublished funerals are gray, published will be green.

Creating and publishing a Death Notice

In any funeral open the Notices section. A Notice may be creating by clicking the dropdown marked Notice. Obit provides a couple of default Death Notice templates which you can use or you can create your own custom template. Once the notice is generated you will be able to edit immediately using the editor. Click Save once you are happy with the content.

Back in the Notices main menu, the document you have created will be listed. The final step is to click the central (green) Publishing button

Once you do this you will see the icon on the left will go Green, indicating that the notice has been published.

If you wish to also publish a profile photo of the deceased, this should be uploaded in the Uploads section. If the photo is designated as Profile, not only will be photo be visible in the Deceased section but the photo will also be automatically incorporated into the published notice on the website.
